Wildlife Safety Course with Ecology Hike

Learn all about wildlife in the Inland Northwest, and how to have safe wildlife encounters.

We will meet you at the trailhead/parking lot at the designated time and gather to go through the 3 educational modules with hands-on exercises, which will take approximately 2 hours. Then we will do an approximately 5-mile hike along an established trail, and will talk about local ecology, look for tracks, and practice what you have learned. Get a chance to observe wildlife, and practice using inert bear spray. The goal is to teach critical thinking in the outdoors and keep both humans and wildlife safe.

The modules are:

  1. Module 1: The human-wildlife relationship

  2. Module 2: Understanding animal behavior and recognizing wildlife sign

  3. Module 3: Avoiding a negative encounter
